The fame of Karlovy Vary thermals

123
The simple reminder that many illustrious characters such as Tsar Peter, the Great, Frederick I, from Prussia, Louis Pasteur, JW Goethe, Beethoven, Wagner, Strauss, were in Karlovy Vary and proved the healing power of its thermal waters, already justifies the ride to this place situated about 100 kilometers west of Prague. The fame of “Hot Waters of Charles” is the meaning of Karlovy Vary, which alludes to the temperature of the Tepla river and the king of Bohemia Charles IV, who founded the city in 1358, circulates in the world especially in Europe.

A little city

The city has a little over 55 000 inhabitants, is quiet and cozy ingrown in a mountain, with a peculiar architecture. The spas and 12 sources scattered throughout the small center are the major attraction of the place. The waters reach an average temperature of 40°C and maximum of 72°C. Next to the sources there is always a variety of little stores to shopping souvenirs, which includes a cup to drink hot spring water, a kind of mug with a ceramic straw.

A summer in the capital of the Czech Republic

The sober and closed style of people who lives in Prague, capital of Czech Republic, compensates at the time the tourist starts feeling the soul of the city in the summer. Prague blooms like a flower and celebrates the sun with music everywhere. It is a metropolis, not for industrial potential, but for the diversity of culture and peoples who settled in or are passing through.

The schedule of concerts of classical music and opera is complete for more than two months in imposing churches, baroque in the biggest part, and in theaters – some with architecture and decoration of “Belle Epoque“.

Virtuosity is a constant in the presentations. Are musicians from Symphony Orchestras and singers with the best artistic quality. Talents apart are also found by the streets performing popularly for rushed walkers. Prague is a small Paris, even better, with the warmth of a small town.

Charles Bridge VI

Pass through Charles Bridge VI, with its 30 baroque sculptures (sacred) is an interesting experience, specially for the simple reason the viewer questions the reason for the works being blackened by the time and some with cobwebs. Carelessness or lack of money for restoration, was not possible to discover. he answer surely is embedded in its historical trajectory.

Prague is located in eastern European and was part of the countries of “iron curtain” (1948-1989) and according to reports of the inhabitants, many buildings and works that resembled the bourgeoisie and the pageantry were abandoned and almost to ruin.

dsc01537

However, this blackened aspect of its architecture and some works that asks for cleaning gives a kaftanian tone to Prague, maybe by purpose. Perhaps, showing the dark landscape of the bridge that gives access to the squares, in one side Mala Strana and in another the Josefov, Jewish square, the tourist will be able to imagine the existential torture of Franz Kafka, Czech writer, when circulated by streets of his hometown in a harsh winter.

Kafka

Kafka lived tormented by fears and existential crises that were provoked by the neurotic relationship between domineering father and sensitive son and by a life limited within a bureaucratic service, situations that resulted in one of his best known works, “Metamorphosis”, which describes the feeling of turning into a cockroach.

Feel Prague with this look is to transport yourself to Kafta’s world. For those who admires the writer, worths the visit to the Museum which maintains his documents and history.

But the current Prague also offers the visitor the possibility to focus a more cheerful and worldly look. For this is enough to enjoy the diversity of musical events and all the touristic attractions that makes the history of the city.Astronomical Tower (Orloj) a building with a huge clock that was built in 1410. Is the third astronomical clock in the world and the only that still works. More tips about the various can be found on the internet in websites. More photos from Prague in mariweigert.blogspot.com

Abu Dhabi Louvre

Abu Dhabi Louvre is a museum that is currently under construction in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates capital. Initially the opening was scheduled for 2012-2013, but delays have led to predict a new date, 2015. It will be one of the components of a gigantic cultural district which is being built on the island of Saadiyat, along with three other museums and a center of entertainment.

On March 7, 2007, the Louvre Museum in Paris, announced that would associate its name to this new museum as part of a 30-year agreement between the city of Abu Dhabi and the French government. The museum, designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, will have a total area of 24,000 square meters and the construction costs are estimated between 832 and 108 million euros.

Artwork from around the world will be showcased at the museum, with particular focus placed upon bridging the gap between Eastern and Western art. However, the construction of the museum has caused much controversy in the art world, as many objections have been raised as to the motives of the Louvre in this deal. (Text from Wikipedia).

Spirituality and light on the agenda of the biennial

121
Two major biennial, the one from Venice in 2013, and the Sao Paulo Biennial in 2014, put in scene works with concepts that make the viewer reflect on spirituality and religion.

The Light of the World will be the theme of the International Biennial of Curitiba in 2015. Coincidence? Certainly not.

It is the critical vision of a time of contrasts in which man is deconstructed by consumption and individuality and in the same measure, seeks to understand the reason for its existence. That was the general curator of the Venice Biennale of 2013, proposed by the Italian Massimiliano Gioni. The idea was to go ahead on the question, much more than gather artists with their creative impulses, he said.

To Gioni was more important to ask at that time “which is the world of artists?”.

With this focus was inspired by the dream of the American Marino Auriti, of creating a place where could gather the knowledge of the world. With this premise, the Encyclopedic Palace – opened space to show the Red Book, by Carl Gustav Jung, the Swiss psychoanalyst who tried to unravel the mysteries of the mind and created the concept of the collective unconscious.

From this curatorship was possible to show the 16mm film “The Family of Captain Gervasio”, by Brazilian artist Tamar Guimaraes and the Dutch Kasper Akhoj in the Italian international event. The most remarkable in this case is that the work was presented in Venice in 2013, and this year in Sao Paulo Biennial, 2014, whose theme was How …. (..) Things that do not exist.

From the curatorial proposal was much easier talk about things that exist, but society pretends that does not exist, especially when it is about Captain Gervasio Family. The film registers healing sessions conducted by spirit mediums in Minas Gerais. Tamar, who researches and documents the life and work of Chico Xavier, was able to open once more paths to expose his work. Curitiba

Teixeira Coelho, curator of Curitiba Biennial, wants the capital of Paraná emanates light for two months through art. Coelho proposes that the artist, above all, raise awareness in their works the experience of calm beauty, the serene grandeur. “The light of beauty, the very beauty light (as in the stars), is the light that emanates from all parts of the world – a light you can trust. And a light that asks more light, as maybe Goethe wanted in his last words”.

 Critical look

All these exciting themes were inserted into the art universe because it represents the contemporaneity of the world. “Not only show creative impulses, especially go further, as the Italian Gioni said. Neither talk about issues that hypocritical society pretends that do not exist, as proposed by the Biennial of São Paulo. Despite this, the visionary healers did not reach the totality of artists adhering to these deep arguments. Art could not even today transform society, although it has provoked the viewer.

“The artist maintains close ties with his time and art crosses history and presents itself virgin to new interpretations”, says Cristina Couto, in the book Questions of art – Moderna publisher.

However, we live in a time where art production is also disposable, with installations and other conceptual artistic creations that did not remain to perpetuate the memory of humanity. For all that, the physical conection, palpable, observed with naked eyes, must pass to another dimension beyond matter, in which the light and spirit has eternal space in the universe and in people’s heart.
