The Colors of the Sacred: Legacy of Carybé to Brazil

The Argentine artist Carybé (1911-1980) left a precious legacy for Brazil: the history of Bahia Candomblé reckoned with colors and art in 128 watercolors. A total of 50 were selected and are part of the show ‘The colors of the Sacred’, open to the public until July 27, in Recife, in the building, also historical, of Caixa Cultural, at ground zero of the city.

The suggestion is to take advantage of both opportunities, visit the exhibition and discover the historical center of Recife, now fully revitalized, including the restoration of Caixa’s headquarters, which housed an English banking company for over 60 years.

Painter, sculptor, illustrator, designers, ceramic artist, historian, researcher and journalist Hector Julio Paride Bernabó, lived and became known as Carybé. Fell in love with Bahia in a visit he made in 1938, “the year that I was definitely caught by its light, its people, its sea and land”, as he once wrote.

The dream of returning to that world which was so fascinating to Carybé  made him return in 1950 to never go back. There, he began documenting all African gods that are part of the book “Iconography of African Gods in Candomblé of Bahia “. It is an invaluable research for Brazilian history.

“This work only pretends to be an honest and accurate documentary about Candomblé things . There are drawings from 1950 to this year of 1980 showing parties, costumes, symbols and ceremonies for me seen and experienced in this wonderful world that slaves brought in and placed deep in the heart of Bahia. World lovingly nurtured by Iyalorixás and by Babalorixás, world of modest and humans gods who still face two terrible and voracious contemporary Gods: Science and Progress. “That was the presentation text written by the artist himself to present his work.

Leonardo Di Caprio donerà una grande istallazione dell’artista irlandese John Gerrard al LACMA

L’attore Leonardo DiCaprio potrà donare la Solar Reserve ( Tonopah, Nevada) una installazione monumentale fatta per John Gerrard,  al Los Angeles Contry Museum of Art (LACMA), ha annunciato il Art Newspaper.

PanHoramarte divulga il fatto e mette in evidenza l’iniziativa, soprattutto perché si tratta di un lavoro che esalta le problematiche ambientali e promuove le cause per l’equilibrio e la qualità della vita sul pianeta .

John Gerrard è un artista irlandese, cresciuto nella campagna fuori di Dublino. Nelle sue opere utilizza sofisticate tecniche di tecnologie multimediali, software e all’avanguardia e in una dicotomia provoca per loro, riflessioni sulla natura poetica.

Si tratta di un paesaggio simulato che mostra le immagini generate dai computer di un impianto solare termodinamico in Nevada. Ogni ora la vista della torre si sposta dall’alto al livello del suolo, imitando il movimento di 10mila specchi che circondano la struttura, tracciando le orbite del sole e della luna. Un’opera “scientifica”, mostrata l’anno scorso anche al Lincoln Center di New York.

L’artista ha creato cinque edizioni dell’opera, oltre due prove all’artista. Solar Reserve in collaborazione con il Public Art Fund , ed è stato mostrato a Basilea , in Svizzera , a giugno grazie al gallerista di Londra Thomas Dane.

DiCaprio ha una lunga storia con LACMA, che ha co-organizzato la gala annuale negli ultimi quattro anni dei suoi  filme. E ‘stato anche un sostenitore di lunga data per la sensibilizzazione sul cambiamento climatico e ha fondato la Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation nel 1998 per raccogliere fondi per le questioni ambientali.

L’eroe di Titanic aveva già raccolto, tramite la fondazione, opere di Walton Ford , Sterling Ruby e Mark Grotjahn e nel 2013 per finanziare le attività erano state messe in asta da Christie’s fatturando vendite per quasi 40 milioni di dollari.

Original publication Artnet’news  – Actor and superstar collector Leonardo DiCaprio has announced plans to donate Solar Reserve (Tonopah, Nevada), a massive installation by John Gerrard, to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), according to the Art Newspaper.

John Garred is an Irish artist, who grew up in the countryside outside of Dublin. In his works he uses sophisticated techniques of multimedia, software and cutting-edge technologies and a dichotomy: your art is reflections on the poetic nature too.

The moving image installation seeks to raise awareness about climate change using a simulated landscape that registers computer-generated images of the tower at a solar thermal power plant in Nevada. Ten thousand mirrors are employed around the “solar thermal power tower” to form a thermal battery. Every day, the installation reflects the orbits of the sun and moon, as they would appear in Nevada, according to the press release.

In this monumental work, Gerard used 3D technology to simulate the Nevada site down to the smallest detail (see John Gerrard’s Chilling View of Solar Heat).

The artist has created five editions of the work as well as two artist’s proofs. Solar Reserve was last installed outside Lincoln Center in 2014 in association with the Public Art Fund, and will be shown at Art Basel’s Unlimited section next week, thanks to London gallerist Thomas Dane. Whether or not Leo himself will make an appearance in Basel remains to be seen (see Leonardo DiCaprio, Mike Myers, Grace Celebrity VIP Frieze New York Preview).

DiCaprio has a long history with LACMA, having co-hosted their annual film gala for the past four years. He’s also been a longtime advocate for climate change awareness and founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 to raise funds for environmental issues.

O ator e astro Leonardo Di Caprio poderá doar a Solar Reserve (Tonopah, Nevada), uma instalação monumental feita por John Gerrard, para o Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), de acordo com o Art Newspaper.

“A instalação é uma paisagem simulada que mostra imagens geradas de um computador em uma torre solar termodinâmica em Nevada. A obra visa aumentar a conscientização sobre as mudanças climáticas com a paisagem representada. Dez mil espelhos são empregados em torno da “torre de energia solar térmica”  e traçam as órbitas do sol e da lua.

Neste trabalho monumental, Gerard usou a tecnologia 3D para simular o site em Nevada até ao mais ínfimo detalhe (ver Vista Chilling de John Gerrard de Calor Solar).

O artista criou cinco edições da obra, bem como duas provas do artista. Solar Reserve for para Lincoln Center em 2014, em Nova York, em associação com o Fundo de Arte Pública, e foi mostrado na Basileia, na Suíça, em junh, graças ao galerista de  Londres Thomas Dane.
